Auburn, Ala. - The Auburn Community Orchestra invites the community to join them in celebrating fall with a FREE concert at Kiesel Park on Sunday, Sept. 16 at 4 p.m. Bring a blanket, chairs, a picnic, and the family dog and enjoy an afternoon of music under the shade trees at one of Auburn's favorite parks.

13th Annual Adventures in Art Program to Feature "Nature on a String"

Auburn, Ala. - Auburn Parks and Recreation is pleased to present the 13th Annual Adventures in Art (AIA) program Sept. 10 - 14 at the Auburn Performing Arts Center - Julie and Hal Moore Center for Excellence at Auburn High School and the Auburn University Donald E. Davis Arboretum. AIA is a free, community-based, art education program for all fourth and fifth grade students in Auburn City Schools. This year's program, “Nature on a String,” will focus on the art of performance through puppetry and exploration. AIA is one of several art education programs the City of Auburn and its community partners are pleased to present for students from Auburn City Schools.

Submissions sought for "The MLK Project"

Red Mountain Theatre Company (Birmingham, AL) and its Executive Director Keith Cromwell, in collaboration with Lee Sentell (Alabama Tourism Director) and Dr. Lawrence J. Pijeaux (President and CEO of Birmingham Civil Rights Institute) are hosting a national search for a one-act written piece to be produced in honor of the 50th Anniversary commemoration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s historic “Letter from a Birmingham Jail.”

The one-act theatrical presentation (play, musical or spoken word) will become the second act of a fully-realized theatrical event that features a first-act dramatic reading of the “Letter to Martin Luther King” by a group of clergymen and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s “Letter from a Birmingham Jail,” written during his incarceration in 1963. 

Submissions are due no later than September 1, 2012, and the winner will be announced on October 15, 2012.

Open Auditions for Nutcracker Performance

Open Auditions for Nutcracker Performance

Auburn, Ala. - Open auditions for the East Alabama Community Ballet's (EACB) production of the Nutcracker will be held on Saturday, Aug. 18 from 9 - 11 a.m. at the Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center. Auditions are free and open to children ages 6 - 10. If selected, participants will rehearse on Saturdays and Sundays in September, beginning after Labor Day. In addition to joining the 2012 performance of the Nutcracker, dancers will take part in performing selected scenes in Auburn Parks and Recreation's Polar Express Holiday Celebration on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. at Kiesel Park.
