The Auburn Arts Association is pleased to announce their newest exhibition, the Auburn University Graphic Design Juried Student Art Show, on display now at the Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center (JDCAC). Students and professors congregated at the Arts Center on Monday, Feb. 27 to celebrate the opening of the show and meet guest juror Ty Wilkins, a 2003 Auburn University graphic design graduate and freelance graphic designer based out of Austin, TX.

The show is comprised of pieces submitted voluntarily by students both for the show and to be judged by Wilkins. At the show's opening, Wilkins gave a presentation for students on his career path, accomplishments, and the projects with which he is currently involved. Following the presentation, awards were presented and attendees enjoyed refreshments while viewing the pieces on display in the Gallery. Merit winners were given a certificate of achievement and first place winners were awarded a graphic design book.

Auburn Studio Project has another successful year

Auburn Studio Project has another successful year

This year’s Auburn Studio Project, hosted by Auburn Parks & Recreation, the Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center, and the Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art, has come to a close. The program, held Feb. 21-23, was a huge success. The Auburn Studio Project committee would like to extend a big thank you to the Auburn Arts Association, Auburn University professor Chichi Lovett and her art education students and Auburn Junior High School for their support and participation in the program. Without their help, this year’s event would not have been possible.

The Auburn Studio Project is an annual, community-based art education program for 8th grade students from Auburn Junior High School.

Several of Tallassee's finest musicians performed in the Auburn University Honor Band held on February 2-4 on the campus of Auburn University.

The students applied for and were accepted based on the recommendations of their band directors, Robby Glasscock at Tallassee High School and Michael Bird at Southside Middle School.  Once accepted, they auditioned Thursday for chair placements on major scales, a chromatic scale, and sight reading.  In 9 hours of rehearsals, they put on an amazing concert that was held at Auburn High School on Saturday afternoon.  The students had time for other activities during their stay in Auburn, including bowling and swimming.  It was a great weekend for all, and Tallassee’s band program was well represented.

AuburnArt to hold "You had me at War Eagle" contest

AUBURN, Ala.—To celebrate Valentine’s Day this year, AuburnArt is collecting entries from members of the Auburn Family to find the best “You Had Me At War Eagle” stories.

“We’re doing a follow-up on our “Legends, Traditions, Memories” contest we had this past fall,” said Cliff Hare, owner of AuburnArt. “We got a lot of great submissions in that contest, so we thought we’d try it again for Valentine’s Day and get some more stories about Auburn and members of the Auburn Family.”

In the “Legends, Traditions, Memories” contest, Auburn students, alumni and fans submitted stories about their favorite Auburn legend, tradition or memory. AuburnArt created a video in which well-known members of the family told their own favorite stories. This video, which can be accessed at www.youtube.com/AuburnArt1, will also be featured throughout the “You Had Me At War Eagle” contest.
