Gardens and venues featured at Pioneer Park's Second Saturday | Community Spirit

Pioneer Park’s five gardens are featured at this week’s Second Saturday, since many of the crops are coming in and the herb and flower gardens are doing well following the recent rain.  A garden “walk ‘n’ talk” will begin at 9 a.m. CST.  There is no fee for the tour, conducted by Dr. Charles C. Mitchell and Tia Gonzalez. Pioneer Park is located in Loachapoka, Alabama, just four miles west of Auburn on Highway 14.

The Park’s nine buildings will be open for visitors.  They include the Old Trade Center [now a museum]; the Cook House, a log cabin, a barn full of period implements, a blacksmith shop, an early physician’s office, a cotton gin office, a jail and a bandstand.

The Park is open on Second Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. CST at no charge and other traditional demonstrations are offered for visitors to enjoy, including blacksmithing, dulcimer playing, spinning, and weaving.
