Auburn PD: Man arrested on suspicion of child abuse

On Friday, May 4, 2012 at 5:03 a.m. the Auburn Police Division arrested Ramiro Delreal-Contreras, age 24, of Auburn and charged him with Domestic Violence Assault 1st Degree.  His arrest stems from a child abuse investigation launched on Thursday evening (May 3) after Lee County Department of Human Resources notified police of a four year old female being treated at the University of Alabama-Birmingham hospital for serious physical injury.  Delreal-Contreras is the boyfriend of the child’s mother and the abuse occurred at a residence in Auburn.  The child was first transported to East Alabama Medical Center on Wednesday (May 2) and later transferred to UAB hospital where she is listed in critical condition in the intensive care unit.  Auburn Police Division detectives took Delreal-Contreras into custody in Birmingham last night (May 3) and transported him to Auburn.  Domestic Violence Assault 1st Degree is a Class A felony offense.  Delreal-Contreras is currently being held at the Lee County Detention Center where his bond is set at $ 30,000.  The investigation is on-going.
