Chizik to speak at 10th annual PSIF banquet | News

MONTGOMERY, AL- Coach Gene Chizik has been announced as the speaker for the 2012 Public Safety Insurance Fund Awards Banquet to be held July 24th. This will mark the 10^th anniversary of both the charity and the banquet. 

Coach Chizik led Auburn University to a Southeastern Conference title and the BCS National Championship in 2010. He has earned both the Home Depot and Liberty Mutual National Coach of the Year honors, along with SEC Coach of the Year.  In his three year tenure at Auburn, Coach Chizik has led the team to 30 wins, the most by any coach in their first three seasons at the school.

Coach Chizik will be the sixth National Championship winner to speak at the annual PSIF Awards Banquet. Past speakers include Coach Bobby Bowden, Coach Vince Dooley, Athletic Director Mal Moore, Coach Tommy Tuberville and Coach Gene Stallings. 

PSIF co-founder Grant Sullivan expressed the organization's great enthusiasm about Coach Chizik's participation.  "We couldn't be more excited about Coach Chizik's involvement.  Having him speak will be a fantastic way to celebrate our ten year anniversary," Sullivan said.

For a decade, the Public Safety Insurance Fund has provided $60,000 worth of life and accidental death benefits to nearly 2,000 public safety officers in Montgomery County and Alabama.  More than 105 local businesses, individuals and organizations have contributed more than $500,000 to the fund, ensuring that these benefits are provided at absolutely no cost to taxpayers or the officers themselves. 

Fourteen officers have died since the inception of the charity in 2002, and more than $600,000 has been paid out to the families of these officers in their time of crucial need.  The 2012 PSIF Awards Banquet will celebrate a new renewal of these policies for 2012-2013 and a decade of selfless contributions by its members.

"The community has really responded to the needs of these officers and their families," noted Jerry Wills, co-founder of the charity.  "The continued support of our sponsor businesses is what has kept us going for a decade.  This banquet is a big thank you to them."
