Several tested after stray determined to have rabies

AUBURN, AL (WSFA) - At least four people are being tested for rabies after a stray kitten turned into the Lee County Humane Society was determined to be infected.

Auburn Animal Control Officers went to pick up a stray kitten called in by a resident. The animal was taken to the Lee County Humane Society where it was determined to have rabies.

Animal Control Officers are now attempting to locate the mother of the kitten and any possible liter mates so they can be tested, too.

At least one person at the humane society was bitten by the infected kitten. That person, as well as four others who were scratched, are being tested by the health department.
