Pair caught with stolen property, hit with theft and drug charges

On Tuesday, June 18, 2013 the Auburn Police Division arrested Jonathan A. Hibbert, age 23, and Sara J. Moorer, age 19, both of Auburn, and charged each with two counts of Unlawful Breaking and Entering a Motor Vehicle, Theft of Property 1st Degree, and Theft of Property 2nd Degree.  At approximately 1:15 a.m. this same date officers responded to the 800 block of West Glenn Avenue in reference to an auto burglary in progress call.  Hibbert and Moorer were contacted in the area after meeting a suspect description provided by witnesses.  Officers located several vehicles in the area that had been broken into.  Moorer’s car, which was parked nearby, was later searched.  Stolen property from the vehicles broken into was located in her car.  A search was also conducted of a residence located in the 500 block of North Ross Street where Hibbert and Moorer live.

Auburn man arrested for allegedly stabbing man in the neck

On Sunday, June 16, 2013 the Auburn Police Division arrested Eduardo O. Chilel-Lopez, age 29, of Auburn on a warrant charging him with Assault 1st Degree.  His arrest stems from the investigation of a fight call officers responded to at approximately 1:30 a.m. this same date at a residence located in the 1000 block of Duke Circle.  When officers arrived on scene they contacted Manuel Carvajal, age 28, of Auburn who had a stab wound to the neck.  He was transported by ambulance to East Alabama Medical Center (EAMC) where he was admitted for treatment.  A second victim, Marco A. Lopez, age 23, of Auburn was treated and released at EAMC for a stab wound to his back.  The fight apparently started after an argument broke out between several people attending a party at the residence.  Chilel-Lopez was transported to the Lee County Detention Center where he is currently being held on a $5,000 bond.

SummerNight Pie Bake-Off Applications Due June 10

Calling all bakers! The SummerNight Committee wants you to enter pies for the inaugural Pie Bake-off, part of the 7th Annual SummerNight Downtown Art Walk. Each contestant may enter up to three pies for an entry fee of $5 per pie. Art vendors may submit pie entries for free! All pies become property of the Auburn Arts Association and will be judged based on overall appearance, creativity, crust, taste, use of local ingredients, and filling consistency and flavor originality. Pie slices will be sold for $3/each and all proceeds benefit the Auburn Arts Association and their educational programs. Winners will be announced at 7 p.m. on the main stage of the SummerNight Downtown Art Walk.

Paul Register Named Auburn Police Chief

Auburn, Ala. - City Manager Charles M. Duggan, Jr. announced today the appointment of Paul Register as Chief of Police, effective July 1, 2013. Chief Register has served as Acting Chief of Police since Chief Tommy Dawson went on medical leave in March. Dawson recently announced his retirement, also effective July 1.

“We’re fortunate to have someone with Chief Register’s experience and ability to lead our Police Division in the future. Paul’s leadership is an important reason that we have an excellent police force in Auburn,” said City Manager Charles M. Duggan, Jr.

The accolades continue for the Huntingdon baseball team.
 
Coming off a second straight 30-win season and the program’s first appearance in a NCAA Regional, three Hawks were recently recognized by the American Baseball Coaches Association. Junior catcher Joseph Odom was named second-team All-American and joined pitchers Neil Lawler and Craig Brown on the ABCA All-South Region teams.
 
Odom was named first-team All-South, Lawler was second-team All-South and Brown was third-team All-South. 
 
“All of these guys are deserving of the accolades they’ve received and each of them played a key role in our success this season,” Huntingdon head coach D.J. Conville said. “To be recognized with All-American and All-Region honors, it shows the kind of season that Odom turned in. He’s worked hard to achieve what he has. 
 
“Neil and Craig both had strong years and I’m tickled to see them recognized on the All-Region teams.

Mansmann earns Honorable Mention All-American Honors

Auburn Montgomery senior second baseman Chad Mansmann was recently named an NAIA Honorable Mention All-American, when the national office announced its 2013 Baseball All-America teams.

The teams were selected by the NAIA Baseball Coaches Association All-America Selection Committee. A total of 34 student-athletes were named to the first and second teams, while an additional 35 players earned honorable mention accolades.

Mansmann was a catalyst for the AUM offense, posting a .411 batting average, scoring 58 runs and stealing 39 bases, the second-best single-season total in school history. The Millbrook, Ala., native, has a team-leading 28 multi-hit games and has posted hitting streaks of 18 and 17 games. He has added 10 doubles and has been hit by 19 pitches.

On the national level, Mansmann ranked ninth in stolen bases, 13th in batting average, 20th in hits and 24th in runs scored.

Stolen property located at Auburn business, business owner arrested

On Monday, June 3, 2013, The Auburn Police Division arrested Mr. Jacob Tyler Greer, alias, 25 years old, Auburn, Lee County, Alabama.  The arrest stemmed from an investigation conducted by the Auburn Police Division that resulted in the execution of a search warrant at Greer's business located on Mall Blvd. in Auburn.  The search was in response to information regarding property from burglaries occurring in the Auburn Police Jurisdiction being located at the business.  Several thousand dollars worth of property including electronics and firearms were recovered.  Thus far Greer has been charged with Possession of Short Barrel Shotgun and Receiving Stolen Property 2nd degree;  additional charges are expected.  Mr. Greer was transported to the Lee County Detention Facility where he was further processed and a bond was set for $6000.00. Further investigation and arrests are pending.
