AUM's Cassie Daniels earns 4th SSAC Pitcher of the Week award

For the second consecutive week and fourth time overall, Auburn Montgomery sophomore Cassie Daniels was named the Southern States Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week after a pair of dominant performances against ranked opponents.

On Saturday, Daniels tossed her first career no-hitter against ninth-ranked Belhaven, leading AUM to a 2-0 victory. She struck out nine batters in her fifth complete game shutout of the season.

Daniels continued her impressive weekend the following afternoon versus 14th-ranked William Carey, limiting the Crusaders to one run in another complete game effort. She surrendered seven hits while striking out seven. The victory moved her to 17-1 this season, setting a new AUM single-season record for wins.

Franks earns ninth Army ROTC Athletic Achievement Award

Auburn Montgomery senior Eran Franks was selected the ninth recipient of the Army ROTC Athletic Achievement Award for the 2012-13 school year on Wednesday, for his efforts both on and off the baseball field.

Criteria for the Army ROTC Athletic Achievement Award includes being certified for eligibility and involved in participation of a varsity sport; performance on the field or court during the previous two weeks; contributions to the team's success through their individual leadership skills, their commitment to teamwork, their extra effort during practice and their demonstration of sportsmanship; and performance off the field of play, including academic success, character and exemplary community outreach.

During the two weeks of his nomination, Franks helped the Warhawks to a 5-1 mark, with all six games counting toward the Southern States Athletic Conference standings.

Auburn, AL - Five Auburn City Schools students were recognized by Auburn Mayor Bill Ham, Jr. today for contributing art designs selected to mark 1,000 storm drains in Auburn. Designs by Kathryn Duffield, Lindsay Evermon, Rachel Robinson, Kendal Black and Soojin Park were chosen from approximately 250 entries.

On Thursday, April 11, 2013 the Auburn Police Division arrested Blake P. Howard, age 22, and Joseph G. Hunter, IV, age 25, both of Auburn, and charged each with Unlawful Breaking and Entering a Motor Vehicle and Theft of Property 2nd Degree.  Their arrests stem from the investigation of a police report dated April 9, 2013 in which the victim stated that someone broke into his vehicle while it was parked in the 500 block of Rosemary Court.  Property stolen out of the vehicle was later recovered by police.  Howard and Hunter were transported to the Lee County Detention Center where each is being held on a $6,000 bond.  The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are possible.

Man arrested for theft after he was identified from security video

Tuesday (04-09) just after 12 noon Central DST a homeowner in the 1700 Block of Lee Road 379 in the Salem/Bleecker community came home to find his residence had been burglarized. Property taken included a firearm and jewelry items. Working with the homeowner, investigators were able to develop a description of a suspect vehicle obtained from the victim's residential security system. This information was then provided to sheriff’s patrol deputies. Later Tuesday evening a deputy on patrol observed a vehicle fitting the description of the suspect vehicle at a residence in Smiths Station. Contact was made with an individual at the residence and further investigation resulted in the discovery of evidence linking him to the burglary reported on Lee Road 379. Sheriff’s investigators arrested Anthony Reed Eden (41) of Lee Road 430 and charged him with Burglary III and Theft II.y system. This information was then provided to sheriff's patrol deputies.

AUBURN, Ala., April 8, 2013 — Dr. Joseph Eakes, Jimmy and Chris Pursell Endowed Professor of the Department of Horticulture at Auburn University, and Huntsville native, was recently named the 2013 Outstanding Educator of the Year by the PLANET Academic Excellence Foundation (PLANET AEF).  PLANET, the national trade association for landscape professionals, presented the award on March 10, 2013, at its annual National Collegiate Landscape Competition, hosted by Auburn University in Auburn, Ala.
