AUM Softball sweeps SSAC weekly honors

Auburn Montgomery junior shortstop was selected the Southern States Athletic Conference Player of the Week, while sophomore hurler Cassie Daniels was chosen the SSAC Pitcher of the Week, following strong performances last week at the Gulf Coast Invitational.

Pepper joins sophomore teammate Katie Spain as 2013 league player of the week honorees, while Daniels becomes the first AUM pitcher since four-time All-American Brandi Richards to claim the honor. Spain garnered player of the week accolades for the week of Feb. 18-24, while Richards earned the recognition during the final week of last season.

In five games, Pepper finished with a .571 batting average, collecting 8 hits in 14 at bats. She hit two home runs and added a triple en route to posting a 1.143 slugging percentage for the week. Auburn Conservatives for Tomorrow (ACT) and Young America’s Foundation will host An Evening with Ann Coulter on Friday, March 22, 2013 at the Hotel at Auburn University.  The VIP Dinner & Photo Op begins at 5:30 PM, and the Program starts at 7:30 PM.  Program general admission is FREE for students and $20 for non-students at the door. 

An Evening with Ann Coulter will be a fun-filled and insightful night.  Those who attend will learn the value of free enterprise, individual freedom, and a strong national defense to America’s success as a nation.

Police Chief Tommy Dawson Receives Chairman's Award

Auburn, Ala. - City of Auburn Police Chief Tommy Dawson was awarded the Auburn Chamber of Commerce Chairman’s Award on Thursday, February 28, at the Auburn Chamber Annual Meeting. Outgoing Chairman Errol Howard, who presented the award, said “Chief Dawson exemplifies the concept of servant leadership. He serves the Auburn community out of passion, and out of duty. Auburn student, Andalusia native selected for Allstate Inaugural Good Works Basketball Team

INDIANAPOLIS – Feb. 26, 2013 – The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and Allstate Insurance Company today announced the 20 men’s and women’s college basketball student-athletes named to the inaugural Allstate NABC Good Works Team® and Allstate WBCA Good Works Team®.

 

The award recognizes a unique group of men’s and women’s college basketball student-athletes who have made outstanding contributions in the areas of volunteerism and civic involvement including building homes for the elderly, leading basketball clinics, reading to students and working with children with hearing disabilities.

Area students compete in SkillsUSA Welding Competition

Area students compete in SkillsUSA Welding Competition

Area students competed in the SkillsUSA District High School Welding Competition held on February 21 at Enterprise High School. SkillsUSA is a nonprofit organization serving educators and high school and college students to prepare for careers in trade, technical, and skilled service occupations, including health. The goal is to develop and maintain a skilled workforce. The competition was judged by industry representatives and Wallace Community College welding instructors.
 

Students competed in a variety of skills such as oxy-fuel cutting, flux core arc welding, gas metal arc welding, gas tungsten arc welding, and shielded metal arc welding. Skills had to be completed within a four-hour time limit.

High school welding students can pursue further trade instruction after graduation.
