Auburn Police searching for auto burglary suspect

The Auburn Police Division is asking for the public’s help in identifying the person pictured in the attached photograph.  He is believed to be involved in an auto burglary that occurred in the 300 block of East Longleaf Drive on or about February 16.  The person was driving what appears to be a white Chevrolet Impala.  Anyone with information in this case is asked to contact the Auburn Police Division at (334) 501-3140 or anonymously by text or voice on the tip line at (334) 246-1391.

 Black Belt Adventures Announces Big Buck Photo Contest Winners

Montgomery, Ala. — The winners for the Alabama Black Belt Adventures Big Buck Photo Contest have been announced.

The organization, a public-private partnership that promotes outdoor recreation and tourism in Alabama’s Black Belt, sponsored a “big buck” photo contest for deer harvested in the 23-county region.

Winners have been chosen in three categories -- youth typical (up to 12 years old), youth typical (ages 13-18) and adult typical. Photos were posted on Facebook, and three finalists were determined for each category based on the highest number of “likes” received. Sports journalists then picked the winners.

The winners were:

 

Youth typical (up to 12 years old): Clark Bain of Carrollton. Other finalists in this category were Lyman Thomas Ramsey and Ethan Duncan.

Youth typical (ages 13-18): Danner Butler of Mobile. Other finalists in this category were Tanner Cox and Noah Hadley.

Kelley named seventh Army ROTC Athletic Achievement Award recipient

Auburn Montgomery senior shortstop Branden Kelley has been selected the seventh recipient of the AUM Army ROTC Athletic Achievement Award for his accomplishments on the field, in the classroom and in the community.

Criteria for the Army ROTC Athletic Achievement Award includes being certified for eligibility and involved in participation of a varsity sport; performance on the field or court during the previous two weeks; contributions to the team's success through their individual leadership skills, their commitment to teamwork, their extra effort during practice and their demonstration of sportsmanship; and performance off the field of play, including academic success, character and exemplary community outreach.

“Branden’s intensity, combined with his never-quit attitude, has had a great impact on our younger players,” assistant coach Clay Booth said. “He has been a huge part of this team’s success with his leadership on the field and off.

The search is on for Alabama's Outstanding Senior Volunteers

The search is on for Alabama's Outstanding Senior Volunteers

The search is on for Alabama’s outstanding senior volunteer.

The Salute to Senior Service program, sponsored by Home Instead, Inc., the franchisor of the Home Instead Senior Care network, honors the contributions of adults 65 and older who give at least 15 hours a month of volunteer service to their favorite causes.

Nominations for outstanding senior volunteers will be accepted between Feb. 1 and March 31, 2013. State winners then will be selected by popular vote at SalutetoSeniorService.com. Online voting will take place from April 15 to April 30, 2013. From those state winners, a panel of senior care experts will pick the national Salute to Senior Service honoree.

Home Instead, Inc. will donate $500 to each of the state winners’ favorite nonprofit organizations and their stories will be posted on the Salute to Senior Service Wall of Fame.

Auburn man arrested in connection with fraudulent use of a debit card

On Tuesday, February 12, 2013 the Auburn Police Division arrested Drake A. Gordon, age 21, of Auburn on a warrant charging him with Illegal Possession or Fraudulent Use of a Credit or Debit Card.  His arrest stems from the investigation of a police report dated January 30, 2012 in which the victim stated that someone used her debit card to make unauthorized purchases at several local businesses.  Gordon was transported to the Lee County Detention Center where his bond was set at $3,000.

Apple CEO and AU grad Tim Cook to be First Lady's guest at tonight's State of the Union Address

Apple CEO and Auburn Alum Tim Cook will be on of several guests seated in the box with the First Lady and Dr. Biden at tonight's State of the Union Address.

Before being named CEO in August 2011, Tim was Apple's Chief Operating Officer and was responsible for all of the company’s worldwide sales and operations, including end-to-end management of Apple’s supply chain, sales activities, and service and support in all markets and countries. He also headed Apple’s Macintosh division and played a key role in the continued development of strategic reseller and supplier relationships, ensuring flexibility in response to an increasingly demanding marketplace.

Prior to joining Apple, Tim was vice president of Corporate Materials for Compaq and was responsible for procuring and managing all of Compaq’s product inventory. Previous to his work at Compaq, Tim was the chief operating officer of the Reseller Division at Intelligent Electronics.
