Auburn University to remember slain student

AUBURN, AL (WSFA) - Officials with Auburn University say the University will honor the memory of slain student Jay McCollum.

McCollum was the victim of a homicide on New Year's Eve morning at his home in Pike Road, AL.

Officials say the University will fly a Memorial Flag for McCollum at the Samford Hall flag pole on Monday, January 14. The flag will then be displayed in the Student Center for two weeks before it is presented to McCollum's family along with an Auburn University Certificate of Attendance.

Friends of Jay McCollum needing grief counseling will be referred to Student Counseling Services to address their emotional and psychological needs.

Head Coach Chris Steiner-Wilcoxson has announced the signings of Alexia Boggess and Sarah Angulo to the Auburn Montgomery softball program for the 2014 season.
Boggess will join AUM after graduating from Luella High School in Locust Grove, Georgia. She was a four-year varsity starter for the Lions, finishing her senior season with a .404 batting average, four home runs, 35 RBI and 12 doubles. Boggess earned first team all-region honors for her performance.

In her sophomore and junior seasons, Boggess was recognized as Luella’s MVP and Best Offensive Player, and she was also named Rookie of the Year as a freshman.

Academically, she has made the Honor Roll in every semester, and is currently in the top five percent of her class. The daughter of Donny and Amy Boggess, she plans to major in forensics at AUM.

“I chose AUM because I felt that I would fit in well on-campus and with the softball team,” Boggess said.

The Auburn Montgomery softball program and Head Coach Chris Steiner-Wilcoxson are pleased to announce the signings of Claire Wilson and Reese Byrnes for the 2014 season.
Wilson comes to AUM from Towns County High School in Hiawassee, Georgia. She is the first player in Towns County history to sign a softball scholarship.

A four-year player for the Indians, Wilson finished last season with a .465 batting average, .535 on-base percentage, a school-record five home runs, 22 RBI, 30 runs scored and a .767 slugging percentage. She was a three-time First-Team All-Region performer, and received the Wendy’s High School Heisman award in 2012. Her eight career home runs are also a school record.

“As soon as I stepped foot on the AUM softball field I felt the ‘this is the place for me’ feeling,” Wilson said. “The girls I met were great and the coaching staff is amazing.

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Lee County CrimeStoppers is now offering a reward for any information leading to the whereabouts of a missing Montgomery man.

Willie Clayton Reynolds hasn't been seen by his daughter since December 19 when she reported him missing to the Montgomery Police Department. Authorities say Reynolds was possibly seen on December 21 walking southbound on Highway 80 near Hwy. 29 South. His vehicle was found abandoned nearby on December 24.

Lee County CrimeStoppers is now offering a $5,000 reward for any information leading to the whereabouts of Reynolds..

According to Reynolds' family members, he was diagnosed with Piagets Disease but the disease has been controlled with medication. Reynolds has no known friends or associates in the Lee County area and has no known history of disappearing.

The Auburn Police Division is asking for the public’s help in identifying the two women shown in the attached photographs.  They are suspects in a shoplifting incident that occurred on Thursday (December 20) at a store located in the Village Mall on Opelika Road.  The suspects also assaulted two store employees who attempted to detain them.  The employees suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene by medical personnel.  The two women fled the area in a tan colored four-door vehicle (possibly a Nissan Maxima) with dark tinted windows.  One of the suspects was wearing a yellow sweat shirt with the word “Tuskegee” on the front of it.  Anyone who can identify the women involved in the incident is asked to call the Auburn Police Division at (334) 501-3140 or anonymously by text or voice on the tip line at (334) 246-1391.

Missing Montgomery man's vehicle found abandoned in Auburn

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office is asking for help to find a missing Montgomery man who may be in need of medical assistance.

Authorities say 69-year-old Willie Clayton Reynolds was last seen by his daughter on Wednesday, December 19 at approximately 8:30 p.m. an his Montgomery County residence in Athey Road.

On Friday, December 21 an employee of the Auburn Police Department saw Mr. Reynolds at his vehicle on Highway 29 in Auburn. The truck was found abandoned at the same location this morning.

Reynolds is described as a 69-year-old black male, approximately 5'1" weighing 160 pounds. He has brown eyes and gray hair.

Authorities say Reynolds suffers from Paiget's Disease which may be a contributing factor to his disappearance.

The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office asks if any contact is made with Reynolds to please notify them at 334-832-4980.
